What is a Recce?
The term recce is derived from the word "reconnaissance" and is a production term which refers to a pre-filming visit to a location to determine its suitability for shooting (commonly carried out by the Director of Photography). It usually includes accessing a location and assessing any potential lighting or sound issues, and is closely related to location scouting. In the US, the term "site survey" or "tech scout" is commonly used with the same meaning.
A recce will usually involve a producer visiting a location to assess it's suitability, taking measurements of room sizes, taking light readings and taking reference photos. They might come to a decision quickly if your location is suitable, or this might take time. Ask the producer about their expected timeframes. It is best to message the producer after a few days if you do not hear back.
